To Market, To Market
No trip to Haiti is complete without a stop at the Marche de Fer (Iron Market), the bustling, bright red market in the heart of downtown Port-au-Prince. You'll find a wide assortment of goods, including fragrant spices, voodoo potions and great local art. Hire a guide and be prepared to haggle with the local vendors at this must-see attraction. The whimsical building alone is worth the trip. It dates back to 1889 and was intended to be railway station in Cairo before it wound up in Haiti, where it's stood as a beloved landmark ever since. Although it was destroyed in the 2010 earthquake, it's been complete rebuilt, thanks to Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien, who poured more than $12 million into its restoration.

Located off the central town square it has good security and is the obvious expat place to stay. Nice garden breakfast area near a well received pool. Tranquil after the huddle and bustle outside. Rooms are clean, beds are very comfortable and the hot showers a blessing.
A very pleasant atmosphere and helpful staff greeted me upon arrival. Vladimir, who quickly handled my special requests, was especially helpful. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this hotel for all travelers, whether on business or vacation.

“Great Haitian atmosphere”
We really enjoyed this property. The staff was very friendly and even went out of their way to accommodate us, by letting us check in early after flying all night. The atmosphere was very laid back just as most Haitians are.
