Three Great Places to Visit in Port-au-Prince
September is an ideal time for a visit to Haiti, and its capital city offers many unique and interesting places of interest. First, the Boutilier Observatory is located in Boutiliers, about five miles north of Petion-Ville, and stands over 3,000 feet above Port-au-Prince. It was constructed in 1981, and the view from here is stunning, featuring unique peeks at the bay, the Sylvio Cator soccer stadium, the National Palace, the Digicel Tower, and many other sites and attractions of Haiti’s bustling capital city.
Next, the Marché en Fer, aka the Iron Market, was originally built in Paris in the 1890s, and is one of the city’s iconic landmarks. The Iron Market is also one of Port-au-Prince’s busiest and most popular markets. Here, visitors can purchase almost anything, including the spiritual ministrations of Vodou priests. Finally, the Guahaba Museum is one of the best sources for Haitian history. The museum provides detailed information about the country’s earliest inhabitants, to the colonization by the French and Spanish, the lives of slaves and the effects of slavery, to the island’s struggle for independence.Read other posts
Located off the central town square it has good security and is the obvious expat place to stay. Nice garden breakfast area near a well received pool. Tranquil after the huddle and bustle outside. Rooms are clean, beds are very comfortable and the hot showers a blessing.
“Great Haitian atmosphere”
We really enjoyed this property. The staff was very friendly and even went out of their way to accommodate us, by letting us check in early after flying all night. The atmosphere was very laid back just as most Haitians are.

Great experience. All the staff was very helpful and the rooms were very clean. Vladimir and James were very supportive and helpful as well. The front desk and restaurant was high class. We will definitely be back.

A very pleasant atmosphere and helpful staff greeted me upon arrival. Vladimir, who quickly handled my special requests, was especially helpful. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this hotel for all travelers, whether on business or vacation.
