Presse Cafe in Petion-ville
The Presse Cafe combines a laid-back cafe atmosphere with a renowned live music scene on Thursday and Friday nights. A favorite amongst locals for its dance scene, Presse Cafe is a short, 20-minute drive to Petion-ville from Le Plaza Hotel. Though this cafe tends to be quiet during the daylight hours and most weekday nights, on Thursday and Friday it explodes with incredible energy as local bands grooves out Haiti’s own homegrown sound, Compas, an infectious meringue-like music that claims both African and European roots as far back as the 1800s. In Presse Cafe, you’re likely to find the dance floor packed with local 30-to-40-somethings, working their devil-may-care dance moves inspired by the infectious Compas sound. After a recent redesign the cafe combines the look of a trendy night spot with a rootsy, Haitian cafe. Head on down to Petion-ville and join in!
Enjoy your day at Le Plaza, in the outdoor pool or lazing about your Caribbean-colored, Creole-inspired room. Head down to La Terrassa Bar & Restaurant for some relaxed Haitian cuisine whether it be a simple sandwich or traditional rice and beans fare. Or, if you’re feeling more formal, the Kanel Restaurant can provide a more ornate experience with its much celebrated seafood and international cuisine. Once sated, take the short drive to Cafe Presse and behold its beautiful mural and mosaic covered walls complete with photos and newspaper clippings of jazz heroes. As soon as you drive up, the sounds of the classic Compas will surround you and entice you in. Find yourself a place on the dance floor and the let the music and true soul of Haiti take control! If you’re still feeling peckish, Presse also offers great, late night Haitian classics on the cheap.
The steady beats and good times on offer at Presse Cafe will surely please. Once tuckered out for the night, head back to the Le Plaza for some much deserved rest.

“Great Haitian atmosphere”
We really enjoyed this property. The staff was very friendly and even went out of their way to accommodate us, by letting us check in early after flying all night. The atmosphere was very laid back just as most Haitians are.

Located off the central town square it has good security and is the obvious expat place to stay. Nice garden breakfast area near a well received pool. Tranquil after the huddle and bustle outside. Rooms are clean, beds are very comfortable and the hot showers a blessing.
A very pleasant atmosphere and helpful staff greeted me upon arrival. Vladimir, who quickly handled my special requests, was especially helpful. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this hotel for all travelers, whether on business or vacation.
