Getting Artsy in Pétionville

04/08/2016

If you’re looking for a relaxing day of exploring the city, we recommend you head to Pétionville, a suburb not far from our Port-au-Prince hotel. Here, a mostly residential area, life moves a bit slower than in the center of town. Spend your morning stepping into the many galleries where you’ll find everything from traditional Haitian art and hand-made crafts, such as beadings and metalwork, to fine art. Even outside of the galleries, you’ll find plenty of colorful artwork for sale along the streets. These make great souvenirs if you’re hoping to take a little bit of authentic Haiti home with you. If the walking around makes you hungry, have a delicious lunch at Café Presse, a popular spot with locals for their great sandwiches and Haitian dishes. If you have a sweet tooth, don’t miss Patisserie Marie Beliard, the best bakery in town.

A very pleasant atmosphere and helpful staff greeted me upon arrival. Vladimir, who quickly handled my special requests, was especially helpful. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this hotel for all travelers, whether on business or vacation.

  • “Great Haitian atmosphere”

We really enjoyed this property. The staff was very friendly and even went out of their way to accommodate us, by letting us check in early after flying all night. The atmosphere was very laid back just as most Haitians are.

  • “Oasis”

Located off the central town square it has good security and is the obvious expat place to stay. Nice garden breakfast area near a well received pool. Tranquil after the huddle and bustle outside. Rooms are clean, beds are very comfortable and the hot showers a blessing.
