Shop Local at the Comité Artisanal Haitien
The most exciting part of any vacation is when you get the chance to meet the locals outside of tourist zones and get the inside scoop on less-visited locales. When it comes to shopping, escaping the cheap tourist souvenirs is a tall order, unless you go to the Comité Artisanal Haitïen near The Plaza Hotel.
The Comité Artisanal Haitïen (CAH for short) was founded in 1973 as a way to encourage local economic development in an otherwise stifled economic climate. Since then, the CAH has gained international recognition for its showcase of local artisans selling unique crafts of all sorts. The crafts you can expect to find range from metal drum art and stone carvings to papier-mâché and baskets. Due to the unique nature of the market, hours are limited, so make sure to plan your day accordingly so you don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity. Hours are Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm and Saturday, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm and the CAH is less than a ten-minute drive from the Plaza Hotel.
Once you have had a full day of shopping and meeting/buying from local artisans, make sure to take a dip in the Plaza Hotel Pool or have a bite to eat at La Terrassa and sample classic Haitian dishes.

“Great Haitian atmosphere”
We really enjoyed this property. The staff was very friendly and even went out of their way to accommodate us, by letting us check in early after flying all night. The atmosphere was very laid back just as most Haitians are.

Located off the central town square it has good security and is the obvious expat place to stay. Nice garden breakfast area near a well received pool. Tranquil after the huddle and bustle outside. Rooms are clean, beds are very comfortable and the hot showers a blessing.
A very pleasant atmosphere and helpful staff greeted me upon arrival. Vladimir, who quickly handled my special requests, was especially helpful. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this hotel for all travelers, whether on business or vacation.
