Here is news that will be of some comfort to those whose family or friends are believed to have been guests of the hotel:
I just saw CNN reporting from the balcony of Plaza and all appears well. I have to assume that it is functioning and was told that Anderson Cooper did an interview there last night.
They also showed that Plaza was giving water to the people in front on the street so this means the pumps are working.

Are the guests back in their rooms, I wonder….
New York University (NYU) is trying to locate 2 PhD history students who traveled to Haiti on Monday, Jan. 11 — Nathalie Pierre and Greg Childs. It is possible that they were staying at the Plaza. If anyone can tell us of their whereabouts and condition, we’d be very grateful. Please contact me at john.beckman@nyu.edu with any information
Looking for information about two waiters that work at Le Plaza, Vladimir and Jean-Claude. Don’t know last names. Can you tell me if they are okay?
We have stayed at Le Plaza 6 times in the last 2 years as we’ve been to visit our children that we are adopting from Haiti. We love those orange walls… we see them and know we’re nearly “home”.
We and our friends have been worried about our friends – your staff there – who have always been so good to us. Are Vladimir, Jean Claude, Michel and the very nice gentleman who always helps us with breakfast (he and I have a standing joke that I can never pronounce his name correctly and he’s always very gracious about it)… are they OK? You have wonderful people working for you and they have always treated us like their own family. Please let us know that these particular staff members are safe. We have all been concerned about them in addition to our other friends and family in Haiti
Sincerely,
The Families of the Children at Hope for Little Angels of Haiti Creche
PLEASE, can anyone confirm if RODNEY RIGHTENBURG, is at Le Plaza Hotel? He just took a job there about 2 weeks ago. He is an American, age 52 ,and has been living in Haiti for a while now. Email me: LauraRight1@me.com
Sincerely,
Laura
glad to hear that the hotel is safe. Agnes, you ok?
Agnes Pierre-Louis and her father are both well. Agnes spoke briefly with her sister in San Francisco on the evening of the earthquake.
Dear Administrator, thank you for your reply. I could not read it as I lost it from my e-mail the moment I wanted to read it.
But I understand from this blog that both Fred and Agnes are well.
Please convey my best regards and my most heartfelt sadness over this terrible catastrophy to them.
I donated a siezable sum to Medicins sans Frontiers for a little bit of my personal aid for Haiti,
If I can do ANYTHING else to assist Agnes and Fred, please let me know. Do give my e-mail to them please.
My thoughts and prayers are with them and all of Haiti.
I have stood on that balcony and watched the carnival for the past 2 years. I am glad to see it still standing and operational. I was to be coming to Port-au-Prince on Saturday for another stay.
LOOKING FOR MY HUSBAND VADEN ORAM AND HIS BROTHER EMERSON WHO ARE GUESTS AT LA PLAZA HAITI DURING THE QUAKE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THEY ARE SAFE.
Le Plaza Staff.
Am trying to make sure that two guests are safe. Their names are Steffan & Ira Kloska (Germany). If so, want to know if Steffan has contacted his mother – she is very WORRIED ! Thank you

I’m hoping for news of my brother ROBERT VILMENAY, an employee at Le Plaza hotel. If anyone knows how he has fared through this disaster, please post here or email me at patrickvilmenay@yahoo.com.
Guten Morgen, Stepahn und Ira Kloska haben bereits Ihre Eltern konaktiert und sind wohlauf. Halten sich nicht in diesem Hotel auf.

I stayed at le Plaza 2 weeks ago and one of the staff at the front desk (unfortunately I do not have his name) introduced me to a young woman called Carole Occeus who had an orphanage in the Carrefour Road area. I visited the orphanage and was making plans to help financially. The staff member called us at home in the US (Pittsburgh) the night before the earthquake hit and he was going to email me to begin making plans for aid to be sent to Carole. I just received a phone call from Haiti but was unable to understand the caller. If anyone has any information about this please email me at dewsterjs@gmail.com. We want to help. Thank you. Richard Spear.
We met a delightful young man in Haiti in 1996 outside the Holiday Inn in Port au Prince – he spoke excellent English and worked as our translator. His name was Jesper and he lived in Carrefour with his mother and a sister I believe. I understand the Holiday Inn became the La Plaza some time after. Does anyone know of Jesper? I wish I could remember his last name. He also had worked as a translator for the US brigade that had built roads in Haiti some years earlier.
